Frequently Asked Questions
What is the ripple delete shortcut in Premiere Pro?
Ripple Delete removes the selected clip or the range between your In and Out points and closes the gap by shifting the following clips left. The default shortcut is Shift + Forward Delete on macOS and Shift + Delete on Windows. (A plain Clear — Forward Delete on Mac, Delete on Windows — deletes but leaves a gap.)
How do I cut a clip at the playhead in Premiere Pro? (Add Edit)
Position the playhead where you want the cut and use the Add Edit command: Cmd + K on macOS or Ctrl + K on Windows. To slice through every track at the playhead at once, use Add Edit to All Tracks: Shift + Cmd + K (Mac) or Ctrl + Shift + K (Windows). The Razor tool (press C) does the same thing by clicking.
How do I set in and out points in Premiere Pro?
Press I to set the In point and O to set the Out point at the playhead, in either the Source Monitor or the Timeline. These are the same on macOS and Windows. To jump back to them, use Shift + I (Go to In) and Shift + O (Go to Out).
What does the Razor tool shortcut do in Premiere Pro?
The Razor tool, selected by pressing C, turns the pointer into a blade so you can click a clip in the Timeline to split it into two at that point. It is the mouse-driven equivalent of the Add Edit command (Cmd + K / Ctrl + K), which cuts at the playhead without switching tools.
How do I add a marker in Premiere Pro?
Press M to drop a marker at the current playhead position (same on macOS and Windows). Navigate markers with Shift + M (next) and Shift + Cmd + M / Ctrl + Shift + M (previous), and clear the selected marker with Opt + M (Mac) or Ctrl + Alt + M (Windows).
Do Premiere Pro's AI features (Generative Extend, Text-Based Editing) have keyboard shortcuts?
No default keyboard shortcuts are assigned to Premiere Pro's AI features — Generative Extend, Text-Based Editing, Enhance Speech, Auto Reframe, or Scene Edit Detection. They are accessed through their panels, menus, and on-screen controls. You can assign your own shortcuts to some commands in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts, and once a Text-Based Edit is selected you can send it to the timeline with the normal Insert (,) and Overwrite (.) shortcuts.
